Elton Brand of the Los Angeles Clippers has been named to the 2006 All-NBA second team. Detroit's Chauncey Billups and Ben Wallace, Miami's Dwyane Wade and San Antonio's Tim Duncan were also named to the second team. The All-NBA first team included top vote-getter LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant and Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash. Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki and Miami center Shaquille O'Neal rounded out the first team. One day after suffering a semifinal loss to Greece, Team USA bounced back to topple Argentina, 96-81, in the bronze-medal game on Saturday. USA finished the tournament with an 8-1 record. After trailing by as many as nine in the first half, Team USA rode the hot shooting of Carmelo Anthony en route to a 50-49 advantage at intermission. In the second half, Team USA made sure it would come home with its 10th medal in FIBA competition by increasing its defensive pressure. Tri-captains Anthony, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James led the charge as Team USA outscored Argentina 19-13 in the third quarter. Elton Brand of the Los Angeles Clippers is the recipient of the Joe Dumars Trophy presented to the 2005-06 NBA Sportsmanship Award winner, the NBA announced today. The NBA will donate $25,000 on behalf of Elton Brand to C.A.M.P. Inc., a resource and learning center in his hometown of Peekskill, NY that strives to increase the opportunities for disadvantaged or underachieving, at-risk students and their families. Brand, a 2006 NBA All-Star and the Clippers leading scorer, was one of six divisional winners which included Chicagos Luol Deng, Houstons Yao Ming, Miamis Shaquille O'Neal, New Jerseys Jacque Vaughn and Utahs Andrei Kirilenko. Firmly entrenched on the All-Star team, Elton Brand now is forcing his name into the MVP discussion. Brand scored a career high-tying 44 points and simply took over down the stretch, singlehandedly lifting the Los Angeles Clippers to a 91-87 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Full Story | ||
The National Basketball Association announced today that Clippers forward Elton Brand has been selected by the coaches as a reserve for the 2006 Western Conference All-Star Team for the 55th NBA All-Star Game which will be played in Houston on Sunday, February 19. Brand is averaging 25.2 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.62 blocks per game in leading the Clippers to a 29-18 record, the teams best start in 30 years. Brand is also shooting 52.9% from the floor this season and 78.1% from the free throw line. He is the only player to rank in the top 10 in the league in both points and rebounds per game entering play tonight and also ranks in the top ten in blocks per game and field goal percentage. Los Angeles Clippers forward Elton Brand was named the Western Conference Player of the Week today for the week ending January 29. Brand averaged 24.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.3 blocks in leading the Clippers to a perfect 4-0 record. This is Elton's third player of the week award this season. He first received the award for the week ending November 20 after averaging 25.0 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots in leading the Clippers to a 3-0 record. He was also recognized with the award for the week ending December 11, after averaging 31.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game. Brand was also named the NBAs Western Conference Player of the Month for November 2005 after averaging 23.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game in leading the Clippers to a 10-5 record. | ||
